RYR99's News

Posted by RYR99 - December 14th, 2023

OK, after three years, we can finally confirm that we have finished working on the first episode of our series "The Alphabet Boys", created by Nakiebra "Keebie" Palmer. Here are a few words he'd like to say:

iu_1129559_5773823.webp

"With all the ups and downs throughout production for this episode, including a long period of development hell, securing a team and making character designs, we may have struggled on and off, but we finally pushed hard to get something out for you guys. You don't have to wait any longer, because on January 12, 2024, Adam, Ben, Chris and Donald will embark on their journey as middle school students and defenders of Dessertopia."

I hope you are all excited about this one!

Guess who's back ... back again.

Sixty Four's back, tell a friend!

Yep, you heard it here first; I have returned to NEWGROUNDS again! If you remember me as RYR99, then you'd have seen me making episodes based off of SUPER MARIO 64 DS & New SUPER MARIO BROS, in which the series was referred to as SUPER AniMario Bros.

SAMB related news

What is SAMB?

SUPER AniMario Bros is an ANIMATED SMB Adventure series, or spiritual successor to The Plush Adventures of Mario and Luigi, which follows Mario and Luigi going on the toughest adventures to save Princess Peach.

This only lasted for 1 year, so keep that in mind.

During 2019-2020, I made this series as a spiritual successor to a plush series I used to make back in May 2017 - March 2019, known as The Plush Adventures of Mario and Luigi.

How did the series begin?

On April 1, 2019, an idea of me making an animated series had just came to me! When I had the idea, I thought I could make a series based on the video games that I used to play, which are SUPER MARIO 64 DS and New SUPER MARIO Bros.

April 2019 • The birth of a fanmade animated project:

PROJECT AniMario was put into the perspective during April 2019.

iu_246356_5773823.png

It was the codename of my series that was set for a release date of Q3 2019, being pushed forward to Mid-Q2 2019.

I hired many of the voice actors to voice different characters in this series - many of them were friends that I knew of from FreezeFlame 22's series, whilst some were known from Super Sabien's early series.

My animation style in 2019 was ... poor. It was poor because of the characters were just .PNG files flying around without having their legs, or arms moved in Adobe Premiere Pro (similar to John Cruz's animation style when he made The Power of 3.5 back on Sept 2, 2018, when he originally made The Kroozie-way Jays, which is now repurposed into PoKéMoN Mystery Dungeon: THE OPPOSITE STORYLINE).

Late April - the rest of Q2 2019 • An official name for this project:

Mid April saw the production of my first episode, "Bowser's Bank Robbery", which was finished!

However, during production, the episode's name was known as "The Bank Robbery". I didn't think of this episode idea, but Drew Bromley, also known as AzUrArInG, came up with it for my series on DISCORD.

We have both written the episode together and I liked the idea he came up with!

Check out the two thumbnails for the first episode ... notice anything different between the two?

iu_246357_5773823.jpg

iu_246359_5773823.jpg

And during the making of this episode, I held a poll for which name would sound good for my series ...

  1. Super ANIMATED Bros;
  2. The ANIMATED Adventures of Mario and Luigi;
  3. Super AniMario Bros.

And on Apr 20, 2019, I announced that my project would be officially known as ...

iu_246358_5773823.png

Then on May 30, 2019, my first episode was released.

You can view it here by clicking on the link.

A score of 2.75 out of 5.0 was given for EP1, thus meaning that more than half of the community on this platform liked this episode.

At the same time, on May 31, 2019, I released a sneak preview of my next episode, FootRaced.

iu_246360_5773823.jpg

Personally, I thought this was one of my most hardest episodes to work on (aside from Old Town TOAD and The Yoshi Party);

How was this episode the hardest one to work on?

  • Camera movements;
  • Race elements from the MARIO KART series;
  • Mouth movements from Goombella (who SeanTheActor voiced, but left social media due to mental health issues).

FootRaced was published on June 30, 2019 (22 hours later than it was supposed to premiere) due to post production for this episode and mock exams eating up my time during the week period from June 21, 2019 - June 28, 2019.

2.70 out of 5 was given overall for EP2.

Q3 2019 - Q1 2020 • Next episodes and the disastrous production changes:

The third quarter of 2019 meant business for me.

I announced my third episode, Old Rivals, New Friends to introduce two new characters in my series, Wario & Waluigi.

iu_246361_5773823.jpg

1 thing has been included in this episode ... rain.

Yep, you heard me, I included rain in this episode. The reason I included rain was because I thought I could make a running gag throughout the entire episode!

It took over 5 weeks of production.

  • Script-writing for EP3 began on July 15, 2019 and ended on July 25, 2019;
  • Recording begun on July 27, 2019, which then ended the pre-production phase of this episode on August 1, 2019;
  • Production started on Aug 2, 2019. It then ended 2 days prior to it's release on August 28, 2019;
  • Post production started way back early on July 3, 2019, where I made the special rain effect for this episode!

EP3 was given a rating of 2.67 out of 5 on NEWGROUNDS.

Halloween 2019 then saw the release of EP4, known as "Here Comes BOOM BOOM!".

iu_246362_5773823.jpg

I thought this episode was one of the worst ones I have officially made; I'll explain the reasons to you.

After Old Rivals, New Friends was finished and released on August 31, 2019, with several ideas being done and finished around August 2019 and beforehand, I delayed several episodes once again with their schedules being pushed slightly back by a month due to the production of Old Rivals, New Friends.

While this was going on, there were two episodes to be on the works that were planned as upcoming, Drew Bromley's idea, Here comes BOOM BOOM!, and my original idea, A FreezeFlamy Halloween, while the series was mainly working on those two episodes, he finished the original version of the script around mid August 2019.

While me and him were talking about the episodes, I tried making the two episodes being put together as one entire episode, but Drew didn't like that idea and thought of just having the Halloween Special go first and have Here Comes Boom Boom! come after, which led to some issues going on with the two as I kept making decisions that Drew didn't like.

Eventually, I decided to go with what Drew thought of, but made the Halloween Special very short but also have it take place after Here Comes Boom Boom! but released beforehand. I finished the script around late September 2019 as he gave the script to the voice actors on September 30, 2019.

When Drew and a few others saw the script and was completely embarrassed by it and thought it was very nonsensical and weird, although he recorded his lines for the episode, he never sent them to me, and showed it to FreezeFlame22 (since it was mainly about the main characters dressing up as Carl characters for Halloween) just to show him how awful it was, he agreed as the two thought it would be best for me to just cancel the episode as Drew Bromley told me, which I agreed to do so. Drew was right, that episode would have been nonsensical.

Eventually, I began editing AzUrArInG's original vision of the script with him keeping mostly everything intact, though added random stuff such as a character voiced by one of the new voice actors that were hired by me, Adam and Friends, into the series.

However, when the editing and animating was on the works, due to it being closer to end of time, I was doing these unthinkable actions such as cutting out parts such as the involvement of Peach, Toadsworth, and several other characters Drew originally had in mind with me keeping the scene he put in, this angered Drew Bromley when complained how he didn't like how my changes and how I executed them in a poor way. Drew was telling the honest truth here. I wish I could have taken his advice, looked for ways on how I could improve my script writing and how I could improve my animation. Drew Bromley, I'm sorry for making you angry in the past with my ideas and how I executed them; I know now that I should take people's advice on what I could do to make my series better.

Eventually, he left on October 26, 2019 with several leftover stories of the series he had created, with one episode having it's script unfinished, although Drew Bromley himself later finished it for me after he left the show, with Trashy Koopa and Lily Sketch shortly leaving the show presumably as well.

When the episode was released on October 31, 2019, AzUrArInG found out that Boom Boom and Pom Pom were actually sisters than lovers by a fan of my content, which embarrassed me heavily, especially since he was credited for the story of the episode, as he then explained about his embarrassment about the scene alone.

After the episode was released, I removed the schedules, which delayed the episodes even more, with the COPPA controversy coming around, causing me to delete both of my channels and move to other websites, causing several of my videos to go completely missing.

On top of that, around December 2019, SeanTheActor would leave the show as well, however it was mainly due to his mental health rather than him disliking the stuff I was doing and the show itself like some of the other people. Eventually some of the new cast members such as Sabien and Pals Animations and Ultra Productions who both joined around September 2019 would shortly leave as well around early 2020, with Sabien's only known contributions being him voicing some characters in Old Town Toad as well as writing the story of the episode The Blind Date, Ultra Productions on the other hand is unknown.

However, in between January 2020, some users such as GFSCartoons Productions, who Drew convinced him and myself to work together, and PLK, a music composer who formally worked for FreezeFlame22's works. The following month, two other users joined as voice actors such as Reesie the Jester and Yoshi 244 for the series, and I reinstated my YouTube channel, and deleted my Vlare, Vimeo, and Dailymotion channels in the process, shortly after production of the series resumed, finishing and releasing The Yoshi Party as the 5th episode of the series due to it being the most complete during the entire duration of the disastrous production changes.

Overall, I'd give EP4 a 0/5, because having Boom Boom and Pom Pom in a relationship at the end of that episode was the worst idea I could have ever come up with.

Late Feb 2020 - Mid March 2020 • Resuming production ...

Now we take you to EP5, which is my favourite episode that I enjoyed working on!

This episode was another episode that AzUrArInG came up with before leaving my series.

The reason AzUrArInG thought of having several Yoshis 'appear in this episode as he knew the title was called The Yoshi Party, so it would make sense to have the party just having Yoshi's in it.

iu_246363_5773823.jpg

The Yoshi Party was more than an episode, it was a way to celebrate my friends birthdays, especially the people who I've interacted and has been with me all this time.

My favourite thing to animate was the rainbow flashing lights so that I could have this disco effect coming into play.

What I find very funny in that episode was when Red Yoshi had gotten thrown backwards and landed on the ground with the party goers running onto him, and squashing him like playdough!

On NEWGROUNDS, the overall rating of this episode was given a 2.55 out of 5.

March 17, 2020 - July 30, 2020 • The weekly event and the next 4 months of trash:

Soon after the success of EP5, I then decided that the next 7 episodes should be published in a week period.

I decided to have my "next" 7 episodes released during Aug 10, 2020 - Aug 16, 2020.

Those seven episodes are ...

iu_246366_5773823.jpg

iu_246368_5773823.jpg

iu_246369_5773823.jpg

iu_246370_5773823.jpg

I'll explain these episodes within each one ...

  • OLD TOWN TOAD - I initially thought of an idea where Yoshi breaks his arm, but I have given that idea to my co-worker, AzUrArInG, for his own series known as "Flamedeck Insanity"; that idea was to be known as "The Pains of Flying". This episode was originally planned as an episode for my own show, Super AniMario Bros. which it starred Yoshi. However on September 22, 2019, it was replaced with a different episode known as Old Town Toad for unknown reasons. Although, it was said to be planned for another season, eventually Drew Bromley asked me if he could use some of the episodes for some of his own shows, I agreed, eventually leading the episode to put into Flamedeck Insanity, though heavily reworking parts of the storyline and completely changing the characters. This would explain my story writing credit on the episode. Thus, OTT was born;
  • Yoshi's Birthday -This was the first idea of the series that was thought up after the events of the disastrous production and the constant changes with the cast and the severe delays altogether. I have gotten the idea from the help of some people, so why not make an episode based off of a character's birthday and include COVID-19 references into account; that idea was the worst one that I was given. One user (who I will not say) didn't like what I have done in that episode as I didn't know that you could bend your own cartoon universe at the time and that a virus in a series I made shouldn't be joked/referred about, even if it wasn't an actual virus. 2 flashback effects were used in this episode, lasting for almost 5 seconds. I really should have trimmed them down instead of making the effect last too long;
  • Daisy - During the development of this episode, I hired many of the voice actors who can help me with this series. A CASTINGCALLCLUB was made, and it turned out to be a success for me when I have found more help as many of the original cast left and I decided to let one of my VAs go because of her busy schedule;
  • A Job 4 Wario - I let GMCartoons provide work for my series, but the script looked too much of a mess with his horrible grammar and I found it a fun episode to work on. However, due to the Black Lives Matter movement, I decided not to work on the episode for a whole week because the death of an important role model is what lead to the BLM movement and not working for a week after this episode was complete was felt like a good option for me to make;
  • 1, 2, Switcheroo! - What can I say about this episode? Well, I could say that 1,2 Switcheroo is a decent episode that I could give all of my accolades to. It was one of my most difficult episodes that I ever worked on in my opinion due to the VFX used in this episode. But I realised that I cut out too much stuff out of the episode, making it come out very bad, just as Drew previously stated. Now in the past, I never watched the episodes I have made before uploading it, but since I am 17, I'm actually going to review what I have made before I publish my videos. You'll never know what happens when a cartoon goes wrong;
  • The Blind Date - As this episode was to be 10 minutes long, I found this a fun one to animate because one of my friends (Sabien) gave me an amazing idea that became one that everyone needs to watch. I can't forget about a romantic episode, so I decided to give a romantic related episode a try; this took me 2-3 weeks to work on as I wanted to make a rom-com esque and the major refinements to the characters I have downloaded and edited in "Adobe Photoshop" back in Apr 2020 to May 2020;
  • Legend of the Goombas - This episode was not only a way to end the season, but to end my story of making an animated series based on the MARIO franchise as a whole. AzUrArInG came up with the idea of this episode, it's plot was partially based off The Ren & Stimpy Show episode, Prehistoric Stimpy with the plot originally had Toadsworth explaining prehistoric versions of the Goombas and believe he has a smarter brain the everyone else with the past, and it claims that these prehistoric versions died after a meteor came, but he believes to know what really killed him as he goes insane such as claiming TV, jumping off a cliff, eating burgers, etc. as he's then taking to an insane asylum and such. However, after he left, and once new crew members came in, GFSCartoons Productions created the script which ended up being mostly a lot different from how AzUrArInG imagined it. When I saw the script that Luis made, I was shocked at what he did. Even AzUrArInG felt the same way I did. The animation was like a wicked ride thanks to me giving a similar plot where the 4 Goombas merging into one huge Goomba, similar to how The Pikachu Bros merged into Pikachu bland in an episode that John Cruz has made ... "The One Bajillion Dollar Bet". What even made the animation a wild ride was that the episode was full of Goombas! It was a good way to end the series as a whole.

And I think that's everything I discussed in this section.

Will SAMB continue?

For those who are wondering if SAMB is being continued, it's not. The series ended with it's 12th episode - "Legend of The Goombas" was made not only to end the season of the series, but a way to conclude the story as a whole.

And secondly, I cancelled this series due to Nintendo taking down fan projects of games and maybe even animations, so I'm kind of glad that I cancelled the series in quick timing on Sept 3, 2020.

Will the final 7 episodes of SUPER AniMario Bros. be published here?

Sadly not, but you can still watch them on YouTube!

But look on the bright side ...

I'm working on something new.

My next project will be known as ...

iu_246371_5773823.jpg

This is what I'll be working on now, known as "The Alph4bet Boys"!

It is a series about 4 children who are in middle school/secondary school, and are experiencing the lives of 11 years old in the sixth grade/Year 7.

You can watch the trailer by clicking on the link.

Speaking of, I'm looking for animators, script-writers, storyboard artists, character artists, prop artists, background artists and voice actors (who are young children, teenagers and/or adults) for my series. If you're interested, you can check out the CASTINGCALLCLUB!

Casting Call Club • The Alphabet Boys

We expect to get EP1 out and ready soon, so stay tuned for it!

While I was still doing pre-production for Episode 2 of Super AniMario Bros, I have updated the textboxes that will be in use from Episode 3 onwards; I may have only done one, but at least I am getting there! And also, I have finished P1 of Episode 3 in terms of script-writing.
